Travel, photography and outdoor exploration are three of the most compelling activities imaginable and they provide some of the most magical moments in my life.” - Sally Eagle, 2014 National Geographic Award Winner

This quote perfectly sums up why I am so passionate about travel photography. Travel allows me to feed my love of nature, my attraction to cultural diversity, my desire to learn about the unfamiliar and to embrace different perspectives, and my yearning to embark on adventures that allow me to grow and develop. In the process of doing this, camera in hand, I also have the opportunity to indulge my fascination with the craft of telling stories through images.

For me, perfectly combining subject, context and mood in an image is the most powerful and emotive storytelling medium. The written word is descriptive but the story is open to individual interpretation. A picture allows a photographer to convey their interpretation of the story visually. There are literally a billion stories to be told on this planet and as Ansell Adams once said, “A true photograph need not be explained, nor can it be contained in words.”

We all exist on this planet but we all live in our own familiar worlds. Many of us spend day after day in “our” world, completing “our” routines. Routine is comfortable, but it can make us complacent and ignorant. Complacency is our biggest weakness and our worst enemy. There are many differences beyond the boundaries of “our” world – experiences to have, adventures to take, cultures to immerse ourselves in, traditions to understand, scenes to behold, wildlife to discover and people to meet. Travel offers the opportunity to do all of this. Combine that with photography, the art (or craft) of capturing unique moments in time, and life is suddenly filled with inspiration, magic, wonder and awe.

I have always loved photography and had an understanding of how profound an image can be; the true power and emotion it can convey. In more recent times I have immersed myself more in my photography and I have combined that interest with a strong desire to travel and experience all this planet has to offer; to discover new, exciting worlds. As I try to see as much of the world as I can, I am also trying to hone my photographic skills; to improve technically so as to capture images that inspire curiosity, evoke emotions and stimulate the senses. More than anything I want to capture extraordinary images and in doing so I want to be a story teller for those who don’t or can’t embark beyond their world.
